Can You Power Wash Windows?

Pressure washers are excellent cleaning tools, but they can cause damage if misused. If you plan on using a power washer to clean your home, avoid pressure or power washing your outdoor windows.

CALL NOW TO SCHEDULE SERVICE

Why You Shouldn’t Power Wash Windows

If you’re looking for a way to clean your windows, power washing may seem tempting. Before you do, consider how a pressure washer can damage windows:

  • Window seals, frames and sills: Power washers can damage your window seals, which means they won’t be able to withstand water. They also erode the wood around your window frame and sill, leading to rot or structural damage.
  • Glass: Unlike pressure washers, power washers have a heating element. The temperature and the force of water can compromise your glass’s integrity.
  • Walls: High-pressure water can dampen the walls around your windows. This stagnant water can lead to mold or rot.

What Is the Best Way to Wash Your Windows?

To clean your windows, you’ll need to decide on a window cleaner. You can make your own window cleaner or purchase one.

Spray the window cleaner onto a microfiber cloth and wipe down the sides of the window. You may need multiple applications if you find stubborn dirt or grime.

Once done wiping each side, rinse the solution off with water using a bucket or hose outside. Dry the windows using a squeegee followed by a microfiber cloth to reveal sparkling windows.
